Health and Social Care Structures

NHS Ayrshire & Arran

NHS Scotland is made up of 14 regional NHS Boards, seven national NHS Boards and one public health body. Each NHS Board is accountable to the Scottish Government. Regional NHS Boards are responsible for the protection and the improvement of their population's health and for the delivery of frontline healthcare services. National NHS Boards support the regional NHS Boards by providing a range of important specialist and national services.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran provides a comprehensive range of health servicesto a population of around 367,000. It is committed to involving local communities and partners in shaping health services that are important to the people of Ayrshire and Arran. Actions, directions and future developments form the basis of the Ayrshire and Arran Local Health Plan – an agreement between NHS Ayrshire & Arran, the local community and the Scottish Government.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran work in partnership with three local authorities and other partners to develop joint health improvement plans (JHIPs) for each local authority area. The plans outline the objectives, strategies and actions for each organisation to improve the health of the local population. Local Partnership Agreements between health and local authorities set out our joint plans for community care service.
